Happy Birthday To You....

"I think it's been about four years now" I replied recently when someone inquired about how long I had been blogging. Kind of shocked myself and began to wonder when (I knew how, Nancy Deprez made me do it....blame her!) I started this silly hunk of babble....it was April 14th 2008.

My beloved space to rant, share my love of wine, my passion for France, my education on the wines of the world. The place that I get to be me, like really me, and have people like me anyway. The place that brought people into my life that I know now I cannot imagine living without. This space is four years old today and I wanted to wish it a very Happy Birthday. Tell it that I appreciate all the late nights it was there for me, listened to me whine or moan about this and that, was there for me to pour my heart into and never once passed judgment or was too busy to hear me. This place is like a dear friend to me and I am eternally grateful...

Thank you all for letting me do this, for supporting me, reading my silly crap and for helping me find a voice, my voice. I'm humbled every single day that you come here to see what I'm up to and feel things with me. I feel more loved than I did four years ago and I know it is because of Samantha Sans Dosage.

Four years, shit maybe I should go out and get me one of those "Life" things everyone is talking about.....

Honestly did you post this just to see how many people are reading? I kid, but seriously dude - check your math. Unless you really started in 2007 ;-) XOXOXO - J

John,
I was kidding as well...kind of. I had thought it had been 4 years but when I checked I was like, "Shit...only 3" but wanted to see how many people actually do read the content of these bloody things so I went with it. Now I know who's really listening! I adore you kid.

Wayne,
This was terribly funny to me this morning but I fear the humor might be lost outside the confines of my coffee deficient dome....

well done, ol' vet (I'm an 08er as well).

You should have a cupcake (with a 3 on it) and pair it with some delicious cupcake wines...

I just went back and checked to make sure - my first blog post was at 2:53pm on 11/6/2003. My gawd - the guy that wrote that post doesn't even exist any more.

Sam, you had me a bit perplexed for a moment. Like the other day when I prepaid for gas then got in the van and drove off without getting any. Was thinking all those drugs in my twenties had finally caught up with me.

However many years, it's a reason to celebrate. We're big on celebrating "numbers" of things, aren't we? Dates on calendars, ages, new bra sizes (wait, that's just me then?) Either way - salute! Sitting here in Abruzzo raising my glass of Cerasuolo!

Joe,
Oh trust me, this post is a giant fucking tumbleweed but it gave me a much needed snicker this morning and a little fun as I waited to see who was going call me on my error....back when my beloved HoseMaster was a more regular reader I would have put money on him being the first to smack my knickers but I had a feeling John would be the first to bust my bawls now a day.

Beau,
Well keep at it kid and good luck to you!

John,
2003?! Dood....insane.

Valerie,
Hell no I don't celebrate new bra sizes, just means I got even fatter!! Thank you for the salute lady and I will in turn raise my glass to you when I get home this evening...and consider writing like a real post and junk.

I read the content, and I knew it added up to two years, but John's a much better mathematician than I.

Too tired to do the math, but always happy to see you pop up on my reading list. Happy anniversary - whichever one.

Samantha Dugan said...

Thomas,
He is wicked smart that John....now I think we have everyone confused, just as every good wine blog should. I hope you are well darlin'...I think of you often and a very big congratulations on your award!

webb,
Awe, that made my day. Thank you. I have been doing this, whatever this is for 3 lovely years and I just wanted to acknowledge the anniversary this morning. Thanks as always for reading.

k2,
That gas bit is classic. If it's not the shit we did when we were young it's the shit that falls apart as we get older....

My Gorgeous Samantha,

Yeah, sure, now I'm the butthole.

I may just go back to HoseMaster and post that it's been three years since I last posted. Or four. Who's counting? Making crap up is what bloggers do.

John's about as regular as and Ex-Lax addict (aka Wine Blog Award winner), Charlie posts begrudgingly and because he has to, Thomas quits more often than me, Joe keeps posting despite being lovingly and universally ignored. It's all you, My Love. We live for you.

Never quit. I mean loving me, not the blog.

Your Late Internet Husband,
Ron, HMW

Al,
Well welcome! Always nice to see a new face and thank you for reading.

Ron My Love,
No one lives for this silly bullshit I assure you. And just who the hell is calling you the butthole?! I understand that you hate blogs and trust me, have no reason whatsoever to feel like mine is any different. I'm thrilled when you show up and am understanding when you don't. And don't you fret Love, not loving you will never be an option for me...not ever.

Thomas said...

Yeah, I quit a few times, but unlike the Hose, I don't announce it; I let it be coaxed out of me. That way, it's not my fault when I return again and again--and again.

My Gorgeous Samantha,

I don't hate blogs any more than I hate soccer. I'm simply completely indifferent to them.

It's weird, but once I left the blogosphere it ceased having any meaning whatsoever to me. Except for your beautiful, life-affirming, brilliant work here. We continue our romance offline, but I still savor every word you write on Sans Dosage, and find wisdom and intelligence here that is rarely present elsewhere. Make no mistake about that.

I know that it is safe to say that no one loves you as much or as intensely as I do. And no one admires your gifts more either.

Happy Birthday, My Love! Three years of brilliance deserve congratulations.

I love you!

Benito said...

Happy Anniversary, Sam! Keep it up, and don't let the bastards drag you down.

David McDuff said...

Happy 3rd, Sam! I missed my own 4th (for real) back in the beginning of March. Might have something to do with not having blogged in going on two months.... Anyhoo, enjoy that cupcake and keep up the great work. You rock!

Samantha Dugan said...

Ron My Love,
"Three years of brilliance"...dude, you don' have to stroke so hard, I already love you.

Benito,
Thanks kiddo. As you and I know you were one of my first three readers, (take that all 7 other of you) and you have followed me all this way...cannot believe that but I am forever grateful. Are there bastards coming for me?! Wonder if I'd even notice?

McDuff,
I Miss You!!! I have noticed the lack of blogging on your end, is 4 years the kiss of death? Hope all is well with you darlin'

chris said...

Happy Birthday, Blog!

Perhaps we should plop another candle on this cupcake and celebrate Sam's 40th?

Samantha Dugan said...

chris,
Awe thanks lady! Couple more months till the 40th so don't rush me!!!

Charlie Olken said...

Three years. Yeh, it gets old quickly--except when it's not.

Ron says I post because I have to, and that is partly true. It is, in my profession, how wine journalism has evolved. But, anyone who has ever read my stuff, and Sam I thank you for being my most loyal fan, knows that I post with passion as well--which is why folks like you and John Kelly, Thomas P. and occasionally even HMW will stop by to comment and correct me.

I am a long way from three years at blogging, but I appreciate the work involved and the love with which you create your essays for us.

Don't stop. You are the most creative, honest voice in the wine blogosphere. Don't stop.

You're killing me Charlie....I do so adore you though.
